Job Description: 

At the heart of our initiative is a questionnaire that asks listed companies to report on working practices in their own direct workforces and in their supply chains. We are looking for an excellent researcher and communicator with attention to detail, and a passion for promoting better labour standards, who will support the methodology and analysis that will underpin the next phase of this initiative.

Working with the Senior Researcher and drawing on insights from external stakeholders, the successful candidate will provide input on the further development of the initiative survey design along with all aspects of research implementation. They will carry out individual research tasks and support the development and delivery of engaging research materials which will inform both companies and their investors on how better to manage workforce issues.


  • Work with the Senior Researcher and wider team to further develop the survey methodology, including liaising with a wide array of topic-experts, stakeholders and partners from within the private sector, public and non-profit sectors;
  • Collaborate on and deliver research outputs to underpin the case for companies and investors improving workforce management and conditions;
  • Support research on specific workforce issues and corporate sectors;
  • Analyse data and publish a report on the results of the annual initiative's survey;
  • Support the incorporation of feedback and revision of the survey on each cycle’s completion;
  • Support the development and maintenance of relationships with key stakeholders from civil society, companies, and the investment community.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:


  • Proven ability to organise and process large data sets;
  • Proven ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex information using both quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Experience of developing research methodology;
  • Excellent planning, coordination and prioritisation skills in the face of strict deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve, but able to exercise judgment to seek advice when appropriate;
  • Understanding of workers’ rights and labour standards issues in relation to company supply chains and direct operations;
  • Understanding of the wider context in which the initiative exists, particularly in relation to social reporting;
  • Confidence in using IT to manage data and communications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce, SharePoint, Skype);
  • Strong commitment to collaborative working and our values of accountability and transparency.


  • Experience of applying research to influence change, especially related to labour standards;
  • Advanced skills in using Excel to analyse and manipulate data;
  • Experience in the visual representation of data;
  • Understanding of our theory of change and a demonstrable interest in the issues we work on;
  • Knowledge and experience of using Salesforce as a CRM;
  • Understanding of GDPR and how it relates to the workplace.
