Job Description: 


We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Marketing & Sales Assistant to work with our Marketing, Events & Retail Manager as part of a small and busy team. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging early career individual to hone their skills on a range of initiatives, focusing on promoting and growing the Museum’s commercial offer. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating marketing initiatives and campaigns to increase the profile of the Museum as a space for commercial venue hire. You will play a key role in driving venue hire bookings with a view to maximize income opportunities.

The contract is for 1 year initially, with the potential for extension.


  • To play an active role in the continuous development of the Museum’s commercial venue hire and events plan
  • Carry out market research and analysis of the local area;
  • To review and evaluate events, campaigns and offers;
  • To proactively develop new business opportunities;
  • To support development of digital, online and e-marketing materials, producing campaigns and creating content in line with marketing and organisational goals;
  • To assist in the design and production of all printed promotional material and ensure its distribution across local, city and country-wide outlets;
  • Identify and develop close working relationships with relevant organisations, groups and promotional partners with the local business community;
  • Ensure the integrity of the Museum’s brand is maintained and its values adhered to;
  • Ensure the administration of the department is carried out in line with GDPR requirements.


Each member of the team supports delivery on the front of house. During this time, tasks can include:

  • Opening and/or closing the Museum;
  • Greeting visitors, issuing tickets and selling shop products;
  • Operating the till and card machine, cashing up and recording data;
  • Answer phone and email enquiries;
  • Ensuring opening/closing cleaning and preparation tasks are completed in line with daily procedures;
  • Undertake visitor evaluations as and when requested;
  • Provide on-site management to ensure the correct delivery of events, when required;
  • Clearing and washing glasses following evening/ hire events.


  • Support the delivery and development of the Museum’s Business Plan and audience development plans and strategies as appropriate;
  • Support the capture and interrogation of public consultation processes and visitor data;
  • Manage volunteers when required;
  • Comply with processes such as: risk assessments; booking procedures; contracts and terms and conditions; invoices and post-event evaluation;
  • Follow all policies and procedures in line with the Museum’s requirements including, health and safety, first aid, fire evacuation and security;

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience
  • Relevant industry qualification such as a Certificate in Professional Marketing, or other relevant related qualification from a recognised industry body


  • Experience of developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns
  • Proven track record of delivering results against targets, preferably in a culture & heritage or entertainment environment
  • Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrable interest in retail and commercial trends, as well as in the arts/cultural sector 
  • Experience of market research and analysis
  • Experience of collecting and reporting on visitor data


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including spelling and grammar, with client-facing skills
  • Proven ability to develop partnerships with external organisations
  • Ability to effectively use the Microsoft Office suite and the confidence to learn other software packages
  • Excellent organisational skills, an ability to meet deadlines and manage concurrent tasks and priorities
  • Proficiency in creative suites such as Photoshop or InDesign
  • Familiar with website Content Management Systems
  • Takes initiative resolving questions/issues when support is not available
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and collaborative skills
  • An ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a team
