This role is offered as a full-time, permanent contract on a salary of £27,000.

Job Description: 

Development Manager:

Trusts & Foundations Responsible to: Development Director

Responsible for: Work experience placements and other volunteers, occasionally

The UK’s leading theatre for young audiences is looking for an ambitious, dynamic Trusts’ fundraiser to join the Development team. In addition to this pivotal role, the Development team currently comprises a Development Director, part-time Development Executive, and an Officer. The department is responsible for raising an overall target of £550k, towards the busy onstage programme, our wide-ranging schools’ and community programmes, and our ticket subsidy initiatives. A large part of this income comprises Trust support, including major flagship multi-year grants. You will work closely with the Development Director to manage and deliver the Trusts strategy for the department and contribute to ambitious overall income targets. You will be an energetic, focused fundraiser, with the drive to take on and own substantial targets, a proven track record in developing complex fundraising narratives, and the tenacity to follow applications through to conclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Working with the Development Director, to focus on achieving the Trusts & Foundations target of around £350,000 as part of the wider Development target of £550,000.

• To manage the delivery of the Trust and Foundation strategy, undertaking research, identifying and cultivating new approaches and putting together dynamic funding bids, supporting documentation and grant applications.

• To proactively identify funding opportunities within the programme of activity, maintaining effective liaison with other departments.

• In conjunction with the Development Director, to maintain credible high level contact and dialogue with the key Trusts & Foundations stakeholders that support the theatre.

• To create budgets in support of funding applications, liaising with relevant departments, the Executive Director and Finance Officer.

• To ensure support is suitably credited and stewarded.

• To ensure that colleagues at the theatre are aware of the evaluation and accreditation requirements of grants and can provide timely and clear information, and to support them in this.

• To collate and write detailed, convincing reporting on all areas of the programme, monitoring projects for current and future funders, and understanding funders’ aims and achievements and failures in an open, honest and creative way.

• To liaise closely with the Learning, Community and Marketing teams for the wider profile and development of the theatre’s story.

• To contribute to the overall Development strategy and wider theatre business plan where appropriate.

• To help maintain the department’s financial systems, including monitoring income, expenditure and cashflow.

• To ensure that all Trust and Foundation information on Spektrix is up-to-date and accurate.

• To undertake any additional, reasonable, duties and deputise as required.

• To attend events and support other projects as required and act as an Ambassador for the company at all times.

 

Person specification and Experience required: 

• An absolute sympathy for the theatre’s artistic vision and for theatre

• A proven ability to develop clear and convincing arguments, and to respond to funder requirements and briefs

• Excellent organisational skills and assiduous attention to detail, with good knowledge of Microsoft, demonstrable writing skills and impeccable time management

• Proven initiative alongside the ability to take instruction, and excellent interpersonal skills

• A clear commitment to diversity in all its forms
