This is an 18 month Apprenticeship scheme at Level 3 Assistant Accountant standard.  The annual salary for this role is £18,000.  We work a 37.5 hour week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5.30pm with a 1 hour break at lunch.

About the Role

We are looking for Finance Apprentices to support our Finance team - and the business.  Our finance team are central to the business success, both physically; the team sit in the middle of our office and metaphorically; working closely with colleagues at all levels on a variety of tasks on a daily basis.  Building these relationships is central to the success of this and all of our teams.

This role is a perfect start to your finance career.  You will gain theoretical knowledge through the weekly training offered and hand on experience across the broad range of financial task –including sales/purchase ledger, AP/AR, billing and reporting amongst others.  There is opportunity to progress to work towards for those that want it.

Responsibilities and typical roles

Accounts payable - processing invoices, making payments, reconciling the ledger

Accounts receivable - issuing invoices, chasing payment (credit control), organising purchase orders, liaising with revenue manager on revenue reconciliations etc

Expenses - tracking expenses and process expense reports & managing our expenses system (Concur), ensure adherence to our policies on expenses.  Intercompany expenses tracking

Bank reconciliations - reconciling payments and receipts

Accounting - posting transactions to journals, ledgers and other records

Working capital management - liaising with other members of the team, plus suppliers and clients on queries, delays and issues on AP/AR

Month end - assist with month end closing where appropriate

Balance Sheet reconciliations - reconciling and completing balance sheet reconciliations for the accounts that you look after

Incentives - manage physical and online incentives payments (to our online community members)

VAT returns

Childcare voucher administration.

Inputting financial information into our accounting package, resourcing system or our parent company's consolidation system


As you learn more, there will be opportunity to take on more responsibility including:

  • Producing ad hoc analysis for the Finance Director and/or other senior people within the business.
  • Assist the Financial Director in creating financial reports on a regular basis.
  • Produce and update relevant budget reports for budget holders to help the business adhere to spend

Skills required/What we’re looking for:

  • High attention to detail and level of accuracy
  • Mature approach to handling confidential information, and ensuring it stays confidential.
  • Good judgement
  • A problem solving approach, solutions focused.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  A real team player.
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Minimum A-C grades at GCSE (or equivalent) in both English & Maths.
